PlayStation Vita
Pre-order PlayStation Vita from Amazon for £279.99 (Wi-Fi and 3G) or £229.99 (Wi-Fi only) (released 22nd February)
First up on this week's Something for the Weekend we had the new handheld from Sony. The PlayStation Vita in appearance looks very similar to the original PSP, however as you might imagine there has been quite a few upgrades since the original was launched in 2004/5. The PS Vita's screen for example is now a 5-inch multi-touch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Display) of near-HD quality. The result being rich and vibrant graphics for both games and other digital entertainment.
There is nothing to worry about if you are a bit more traditional as the PS Vita still features all the buttons from the original PSP. Better still you get a second second analogue stick, ideal for shoot-em-ups in the first person. On top of that (or rather on the bottom) there's a multi-touch pad on the rear thafor use with some games.

All said and done however it is the touch-screen that really sets the PS Vita aside from the PSP's previous incarnations by offering new ways to interact with games with a swish and pull of the finger. Add to that its six axis motion control and it all looks a bit good.
Finally the Sony's portable also features front and rear cameras for use with VR games or just taking an impromptu snap when you are gaming on the move.
Watch2Pay
Buy Watch2Pay from the Watch2Pay website for £99.00
Watch2Pay is a watch (as you may have guessed) that, along with telling you the time, allows you to make contactless payments up to £15. I'm not going to say a lot about Watch2Pay because I don't think it is a very good idea. As a watch it looks OK, if perhaps not ninety-nine quids worth, but the concept of using a watch for contactless payments seems a bit floored. Contactless payment with a card is fine, because if you miscalculate and go over your £15 limit then you can swipe or chip n pin you way out. What do you do with a watch? Give then the watch as collateral while you nip home for your cashcard? Also, as mentioned previously, Watch2Pay doesn't look like nearly a hundred pounds worth of watch to me and if your paying extra for the contactless payment stuff that's just wrong. With a credit or debit card you don;t pay for the kit. Mark my words contactless payments such as this will go the way of Mondex. If you don't know what Mondex is then you should get the point.
Bigtrak Accessories
Buy Bigtrak Rocket Launcher from IWOOT for £17.99
Buy Bigtrak Can Holder from IWOOT for £7.99
Finally on this week's SFTW we had a couple of accessories for Bigtrak and Bigtrak Junior. These were a Rocket Launcher that fires foam rockets and a Can Holder for ferrying tins of drinks about.
The concept of the Rock Launcher is to program your BigTrack drone to navigate to a target or targets before unleashing the shock and awe of the four foam rockets. I would imagine this takes some skill and is a lot of fun. Can Holder does what it says on the tin (pun intended). Suitable for both the original Bigtrak Retro and Bigtrak Junior the can holder accessory allows your Bigtrak to carry a canned drink and delivered via the route you have programmed.
